At the YMCA, we feature indoor and outdoor field hockey programs year-round, focusing on both basic fundamental and advanced skills. Building every athlete's confidence and the understanding of the sport is our main goal during every session.

Schedule

We offer field hockey year-round ranging from practices, games, and clinics.

Registration typically opens several weeks before the season or clinic begins. Game and practice schedules are released at the start of the season.

Field hockey is one of the fastest growing sports in our area. The Y's youth field hockey offerings are open to athletes looking to advance in this sport and learn valuable athletic skills.

Program Levels

  • Young child playing field hockey

    Little Stix (Ages 4-6)

    Our Little Stix program is an introduction to field hockey for our youngest athletes. Coaches create a safe environment to learn the basics of the sport where players will be taught fundamental attacking and defensive skills and fun games to build confidence. The format of this program is a weekly skills clinic.

    All athletes must have a size appropriate stick, mouth guard, and field hockey shin guards. For indoor play, tennis shoes are required (no cleats). Cleats are permitted for outdoor play only.

  • Kids learning how to play field hockey

    Youth Field Hockey (U9, U12, and U15)

    Our Youth Field Hockey program introduces new players to field hockey skills while also providing more advanced players will opportunity to further develop their skills. Teams in each age group will have a mixture of new and experienced players, allowing all players to grow their field hockey and teamwork skills together. Our coaches will focus on refining all the positions, teaching specialty stick skills, and introducing some fun trick shots and moves to use during games!

    All athletes must have a size appropriate stick, mouth guard, and field hockey shin guards. For indoor play, tennis shoes are required (no cleats). Cleats are permitted for outdoor play only.

    We offer field hockey leagues for established school/club teams looking for opportunities to compete.

Field Hockey Camps and Clinics

We offer several one-day field hockey camps and clinics throughout the year. These clinics vary from beginner clinics to camps designed for both new and experienced players, with activities including fundamental stick drills, speed and agility training, and more.

Field hockey is offered by the Oldham County Family YMCA.

Youth field hockey leagues practice at the Oldham County Family YMCA Indoor Arena and play games outdoors. School/club affiliated team field hockey leagues play games at the Oldham County Family YMCA Indoor Arena.

Competitive: Experienced or skilled players. Previous league experience. More time-consuming and requires additional practice commitment.
