At a Glance
In the CPR and First Aid classes, students are taught how to:
- Perform CPR for infants, children and adults
- Operate as one-person and two-person rescuers
- Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Use a barrier device during rescue breathing
- Relieve a foreign body airway obstruction
- Understand the Cardiac Chain of Survival

American Heart Association (AHA) CPR and First Aid
The American Heart Association CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Heartsaver First Aid Certification is for those with little to no medical training. Both certifications are good for two years.

AHA Healthcare Provider CPR and First Aid
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR/AED certification is more advanced training for healthcare professionals such as lifeguards, nurses, physicians, EMS professionals, healthcare program students and allied health Professionals.

American Safety Health Institute CPR and First Aid
The American Safety Health Institute CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid Certifications are good for two years.
Which class should I take?
Which class should I take?
The American Heart Association’s core Heartsaver classroom courses, for those with little or no medical training, include Heartsaver First Aid, Heartsaver CPR AED and Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED.
The Healthcare Provider CPR/AED course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in- and out-of-hospital settings. This audience includes lifeguards, nurses, physicians, EMS professionals, healthcare program students and allied health professionals.
